Blue Butterflies

Whenever I meet someone pretty

tiny titanium tinted blue butterflies

with gossamer wings are born one by one.

Their wings flap — slow at first but

faster and faster and faster

until miniature vortices twist and churn.

The air presses against my intestinal walls
