Two poems on light and expression. One is titled photons and the other Fusion.
photons
coming out of your mouth —
individual letters form words,
strung together punctuated
directed uniformly towards me
like tiny capsules of energy —
photons of light particles,
each small fragment meaningless
but streaming together
i see the color of expression
Fusion
Hydrogen atoms collide and are no more
Conjoining in a fusion into helium-4
PP-chain reactions with nuclear propensity
Thus are born weightless packets of energy
(Photons we call them)
Created, destroyed, and created once more
1000 times within our solar core
Until they reach the photosphere
And with 499 passings of my watch
They fly across space onto earth
So how wondrous it is to know
This morning gift that we all receive!
Bright light from silent explosions of
A floating reactor in empty space
Sitting a hundred million miles away
